Wow, it's been a while hasn't it? I was going to have a lovely post about work sucks but I figured that nobody wants to hear that so I'm going to post about happy things instead:

We finally got tabs in Explorer at work! This makes life ever so much easier. Between that and actually getting sleep last night today is looking promising.

Oh, and I get to watch TMNT II tonight with Senie and[info]teddy0bear tonight. I'm so very stoked.

I'm running on a cup of tea and four hours of sleep right now and I have the feeling that productivity today will be slightly better than nil. It's terrible when I have to spend quite a chunk of my weekend catching up on my sleep because the robot neighbours don't appear to sleep at all and keep me up until midnight and then wake me up at 04:00 during the week. The heat I'm almost beginning to deal with (why do cats feel compelled to snuggle when it's hot but will barely come near you when it's cold?), them and their new found restlessness, not so much. Therefore, today I shall consume more tea than ususal in an effort to stay awake until I can go home and nap. Or watch the pilot for Warehouse 13. I hear it has ferrets.

So my Canada Day was spent being chauffered to IKEA by my sister. I was in the back seat texting simsabalim on the way there so I had something to distract myself with. She has improved since I took her out last so that's good. We had lunch with[info]nicole_grayson which was interesting. We mocked the soap opera that was on the tv at the restaurant which seemed to make no sense what so ever. We got some shelves (we still need more...) for our ever growing dvd collection that were on sale.

After that we went home and hung out until the Stamps game. It was fun despite the fact that we lost and it rained. The guy beside me had a massive umbrella which I sort of hid under. It got me more soaked than kept me dry though, as every time he moved I got a dump of water on my lap and shoulder. The rain stopped in the fourth quarter which was good. I didn't want the fireworks to be cancelled (one of my main reasons to go to the game in the first place). We got home aroud midnight and didn't get to sleep until some time after that as the neighbours were up and about making noise. I'm now dead tired and consuming all the caffeine I can get my hands on this morning. Also, when the Ninja and I walked in to the stadium a lady who was handing out flags told us that we looked like football fans and told us about the league she plays in. I think I may have to check it out. It's full contact and sounds like lots of fun.

My supervisor just presented me with an envelope and a pen (with "zero frequency is our goal/don't let collisions take their toll" on it) recognising that I had no preventable lost time injuries due to collisions in the last quarter. The envelope contains a gift card to Cineplex. It's like they almost know me or something (I am so going to see Terminator this weekend now). This is going to make me feel sort of bad now for my decision to not really do anything today because, well, data entry + lack of sleep = so many errors and typos.

Edit: It's okay to look like a wee bit of an idiot if you're sort of chasing baby partridges off the parking lot and onto the grass where they can safely hide under a tree rather than be smushed by a vehicle who can't see them because they're all huddled together looking remarkably not like a group of baby birdies but rather more like a pile of leaves and sticks right? Momma partridge did her best to hiss at me and scare me off but I figure the chicks would chase her so if I got her moving they'd follow. Most of them did except for one who ran in the opposite direction because hey, why not? They're all safe now as far as I can tell. I really hope nothing happens to them.

Dear Supervisor,

If you come to me with a question, please make sure you know exactly what it is you're asking for. If I confuse you by listing off the ways your question can be interpreted I'm sorry, but perhaps you should have done some research before coming to me. Having to go drop what I was doing to go through the piles of paper on my desk in order to find what it is you're looking for isn't exactly the best way I can be spending my time. Oh, and if I have to explain to you the process of how to find some of the data you're looking for more than twice and you look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about, I'll be restraining any and all snarky comments because I've just tried several ways to explain to you what I did in my old position before my transfer. So if I say that you should call a certain person to get the info you're looking for, I know exactly what I'm talking about.

I should have stayed in the mountains,
cthylla

The camping trip on the weekend was so much fun I didn't want to leave. More on this when I get home.

Work Rant )
On the other hand, I've been watching quite a few movies this week. I've seen Smokin' Aces (better that I thought it would be, especially The Tremor Brothers), Blind Dating which is about a blind man who volunteers to undergo an experimental surgery to get a camera hooked up to a chip in his brain so he can see. The movie also has his brother setting him up on dates because he thinks that getting laid will help him be less miserable (Chris Pine's character when holding a condom for the first time and describing it as squelchy is hilarious) hence the title. It's up on YouTube in 11 parts if you're ever bored and want something to watch. I also watched Prince Caspian which was very pretty and made me not hate Edmund as much as I did in the first movie. I loved the Inigo Montoya accent the entire Telmarine army seems to have (Prince Caspian seemed to forget his every now and again). Oh, and Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep made my night.

Next up on my things to watch, Season 2 of Big Bang Theory and The Princess Diaries 2, Deadwood (seasons 1 & 2), and maybe Surrender Dorothy if I can find it.

I now have a Dreamwidth account under the same name. Come add/friend/whatever me. Needless to say I'm putting off my month end so I can play around with it and figure out how it works. When I figure out how to crosspost I shall be invincible!

Oh, my laptop doesn't want to pick up the wireless at home so my internet access will be sporadic at best until I can figure out why it hates me.

They talk about kilts, Canada being a cultural mosaic ("cultures come to Canada and retain their cultural-ness"), the weather in Edmonton, and people playing loud music in alleys. Nathan is adorable and Craig just sort of goes with it. I also kind of want Craig's rattlesnake mug because it's tacky and awesome at the same time.

Also, why on earth would they let me be in charge of the disinfectant wipes at work? I have a feeling I'm going to be spending more time than I should wiping down workstations tomorrow. Stupid brain and the belief that my cubicle can never, ever be clean and organized enough.

So it seems that my supervisor is going after some of the ladies in the office because of their choices in foot wear. It seems that really cute gold or silver strappy heels that match their outfits and do no look bad at all are "unprofessional" and should not be worn in the office. He spoke to one lady twice about it despite her wearing what I thought were professional shoes. I wore my strappy black heels that I've worn since forever (aka when I was a wee bitty usher) today and am waiting to get spoken to. Mind you, they've passed the test of Janice who is one of the toughest people to convince that your footwear totally professional so here's hoping. Well, that and I spend 95% of my day at my desk where no one can see me or my feet. If I do get talked to I'll offer to change into my steel toed hiking boots that I keep in my car if he hates my shoes so much. I mean, as long as I'm not wearing sneakers or trashy flip flops who cares what I wear on my feet? It doesn't affect my ability to type or otherwise do my job. However, according to my supervisor, those of us who are in the office must "dress for success" with, what appears to me, no sense of personal style what-so-ever. It's bad enough that I'm repressing my personality at work without them telling me what can and can not go on my feet. One of the ladies is going to talk to him today armed with the Code of Ethics and a reference from HR so hopefully he'll relax just a tad.

Only 11 more months and I'll be back downtown with the happy people who decide that wearing jeans and making waffles in the office on friday are legitimate "team building exercises".

I know there's a new episode of SPN tonight but I probably won't be able to watch it until tomorrow as I have yet to figure out how to hook up the tv. I'll probably swing by the old place/ my mother's (she has Girl Guide cookies and gas money) and try to watch more of season 3 of Due South to tide me over until I get boys and cars and the apocalypse and everything. I know I'm the most spoiler laden person on the planet but if everyone could avoid mentioning anything until I've seen it that would be awesome. I'm now all caught up to the last of the very crack filled episodes and I'm trying to remain sort of unspoiled for the last few episodes(I doubt it'll happen but I'm going to try my darnedest). More thoughts on the last few episodes when I'm not pretending to work.

The things I do to amuse myself...

I convinced a co-worker to blow up a Peep in the microwave at work this morning. I'm such a bad influence. It took 19 seconds before it blew up. I was rewarded for sharing this idea with Jelly Belly jelly beans and other candy. This place is weird. The ladies at the front seem awesome and fun, and yet the ladies at the back (the ones I usually work with) seem a little more distant and aloof. Hmm, it's too early to make any definitive judgements I guess so I'll keep trying.

At the safety breakfast this morning it was nice to talk to people who, when told that during my trip to Seattle I witnessed the wpic battle between Mojo Jojo and Spiderman backed up by Kung Fu Bunnies, didn't look at me like I was on crack. I also caught up with the wonderful people from the print room and that was a highlight of an otherwise soul sucking breakfast.

Have gotten back safe. The trip back took three hours longer than the trip down despite having better weather. odd that. Will post pics and a full update on the awesomeness that was ECCC as soon as I can figure out where I can get free WiFi in Crowfoot. Starbucks either requires you to pay or have a Starbucks card (which if you register your card number you can get two hours of free wifi...I think).

Work is starting to give me actual stuff to do on my own which is awesome. What's not so awesome it that I have to use a coworker's log on because I don't have access to half the stuff I need yet. She doesn't have internet access which is a bummer.

For [info]narikalen a picspam that starts off with Brock Kelly. I haven't found any good Leverage lately so I'm hoping to distract you with pretty. I really like the first one with the cigar. I don't think I like his hair when it's longer.

The manager for the position I'm going to stopped by today to give me all the details this morning. It seems there's going to be a rather steep learning curve which after everyone went and left me on my own last summer shouldn't be a problem. However, I get a parking spot of my very own at the new center so I couldn't be happier.
Oh, and when I told him I was driving down to Seattle for the weekend he gave me a funny look and said" You do realise it's more than a three hour drive. It's further away than Banff..." I just smiled and said that I knew it's a 15 hour drive because I did it last year. Hopefully this year there will be less stops so we can shorten the trip.

[info]simsabalim do you have a spot for me to park or do I have to park on the street again? I really hate parking on that hill.

So, I got the job at Crowfoot. I was notified yesterday which was fast as I wasn't supposed to know until friday. However, today I got a call from my future supervisor informing me that I'll not be going to join his group but a completely different group under a different manager. I still start on April 1st it's just that now I start job C rather than job B. My new manager said he'd stop by at some point this week and let me know exactly what I'd be doing over coffee. This is wonderful as I've been transferred from one job that I knew little about to another job I know nothing about. Everyone is now running around poking me to get my procedures done in case someone has to do my job in the future. My coworkers are upset that I'm leaving because they've just trained me on everything in case something happens and now they have to go through adn re-train someone else. I was nearly heartbroken when I told the guy in the print room that I was being transferred. He's the best friend I have at work and I feel so bad for leaving him. I have to go over there at least one more time before I leave to say a prpoer good-bye, even though I'll see him in a year, or if I'm lucky, at company events.

Because I'm now depressed a meme:
1. If you comment, let me know if you want to do the meme and I will give you three people for a fandom I have some idea you are interested in (if I know the characters).
2. Post this meme with your answers.
3. Provide pictures and the names of three people.
4. Label which you would marry, sleep with, or cliff.

(if you want to give me some in the comments I won't mind one bit)

I have just been informed that I have an interview in 45 minutes for the position I was told about last week. I just got back from volunteering all morning so got pretty much no notice at all. Oh, and the guy who's interviewing me is super formal which makes me feel more nervous than I should be. At least I didn't dress more relaxed than I am for the volunteering portion of my day so for that I'm greatful.

Wish me luck!

Edit: I should know by friday if I have a new job. If i get it I would start at the end of the month.

Or at least what the two ladies on the train were telling me on my way home this evening. They commented on my hair (which is in two buns at the top of my head) saying I looked like Sailor Moon. They kept giggling and telling me I was very cute. I think they were influenced by some substance or another because they didn't seem at all sober.

In other news, I may be transferred over to another office because my supervisor's supervisor decided to put my name in as a candidate. That office is losing a member of their staff to Bow Valley so they need someone to fill in. I was told that this was a huge opportunity to gain experience and would look good on my resume should I decide to move elsewhere in the company. I'm concerned because a) they offered me up without my knowledge, b) only told me so getting the phone call would be a total surprise (my supervisor and head clerk knew but didn't tell me), c) I just figured out what I'm doing in my current position so I really don't want to go have to start learning something new all over again and d) they haven't told me if the position was temporary or not. I mean, it would be nice to have something to do, it's just that I'd like to be told that I've been offered to another center. I guess that's what I get for being "dependable, hard working, and a fast learner."

Happy Friday the 13th!

Yesterday:
Spent the morning with the Ninja while my car was in the shop. It's still not fixed. They think the stereo should be replaced. This is what they told me last week but then made me take it in for a diagnostic anyway (this was covered under warranty, thankfully). They said they'd call me and let me know what was happening. However, I did accomplish going into EB Games without making a complete ass of myself and I bought Lego Batman for the DS (I don't even own a DS...). Went to work in the afternoon and did pretty much nothing. I was told by the supervisor that I get to teach him how to do drop down menus in Excel today. I'm currently trying to learn how to do this via google and any reference material I can get my hands on in the office so that I can teach him. This will be interesting.

Today:
I get to wear jeans today as a part of a team building exercise so that's good. A co-worker is making waffles for everyone this morning so I will at least be fed at some point today. Tonight I'm taking to Ninja to go sign the new lease and drop off the deposit for the new place.

Tomorrow:
I'm going in for my annual hair cut. I'm thinking something short. Shorter than I usually go for, anyway. The Ninja is trying to convince me that I should get highlights. I think it's a waste of money. After that I'm going into Future Shop to make some sales person very happy. I just have to go in and tell them the one I want and I get my new computer. That is, if all goes well.

At work, when they want to show appreciation they gift me with citrus. I find this bizarre and endearing. This morning I found a regular orange on my desk when I got in and was presented with one of those little cutie oranges shortly after.
